Description

Get this Ultimate Phoneme-Grapheme Mapping Practice Resource with over 180 pages included covering 44 different phonics concepts.

This targeted activity helps kids make meaningful connections between phonemes and graphemes as they apply this knowledge to encoding.

Use this one resource all year long since it covers so many different skills. It also makes differentiation easy!

Why We Love It:

  • These resources seamlessly integrate phonemic awareness practice into your phonics instruction.
  • Research shows that phonemic awareness is most effective when it's connected to letters and phonograms, and these activities allow for this perfectly!
  • Using pictures only, kids listen for each sound in the word, tapping and mapping the sounds with the graphemes you’ve taught.
  • The printables follow a typical scope and sequence, with carefully chosen pictures. This allows kids to be successful as they practice encoding words with known concepts.
    • For example: when focusing on digraph ‘th,’ kids will see a picture of a ‘bath’… not a ‘thumb’ (since kids that age should not be spelling silent letters like -mb.) We want kids to accurately spell the words they see.

How to Use:

Two resources are included to use in different ways!

  • Version 1: Using Picture Cards
    • Kids identify the pictures and use the blank template to map each word. Then, they practice rewriting the complete word and practice reading for fluency.
  • Version 2: Using Tap it-Map It Printable
    • Children use the Tap it-Map It printable to tap each phoneme using chips or coins. They can then write each grapheme using sound boxes on the phoneme-grapheme worksheet, spelling each word represented in the picture.

Both versions intentionally include pictures only. This ensures that kids get authentic practice in both phonemic awareness, phonics, and encoding.

These resources can all be used for whole group instruction, independent word, centers, or homework.

The blank word mapping templates provide kids with accountability for their work, and it makes your job of checking for understanding easy!
